Equinox Climate Change

The idea, really,
is to age beautifully,
to die gracefully,
to pass cleanly.

There is no stopping the loss of life.
Not mine
or yours
or the
planet's.

We can march and sing
and carry signs made with plastic paint.
We can compost and permaculture
and not fly in planes or eat beef.
We can do yoga and laugh and love our children.
We can show what respect we have for life,
we can fight for what is beautiful.

And we will die.

And when this breath is over,
and this body turns towards resting,
the earth herself spent and fallow,
it will only be a measure of grace that matters:

how peacefully can we let go,
how gently can we become
everything
that what we have fought
so long to avoid.

Thank you for your words. It is important to remind ourselves of these things. For me especially, as I am so caught up in the struggle to save what can be saved in the midst of this, the sixth global extinction. The great challenge of changing course radically to a culture and an economy that help the Earth to flourish in resilient diversity, rather than stagnate and decline into the mono-culture of industrial "efficiency" through our need for ever more control over our surroundings. Such fear! Love and compassion will save those who are ready to let them into their hearts.
It helps to know there are such souls as yourself, helping bring others to the grace you speak of.
