BONITA 1

It was in blinking that one could perceive the slight delay of Bonita's functions. Her right eye often waited, a fraction of a second, behind the left in its programmed habit. Sometimes it did not close at all and then all that could be seen was a pronounced twitch if you were looking at her left side, and nothing from the right.

Otherwise, she was an almost perfect replication. She was built with an impeccable memory that was capable of recalling the most pertinent quotes, and also rearranging them so they came out sounding original. She lived on the 11th floor of a hexagonally shaped apartment building eight blocks from where the ocean met the city and was able to walk to and from her job drafting in an Architectural Firm on the inland south side. On the weekends she cooked new and simple dishes whose recipes displayed themselves in the counter and rebuilt digital clocks and radios.
